Khotmil Quran and Writing It Down to Provide an Understanding of Islam

The environment is an important part of human life, which needs to be maintained to create harmony between humans and nature. Students of Sunan Giri University Surabaya (UNSURI) carried out community service activities in Joyoboyo Wonokromo Village, Surabaya with a focus on grounding and providing an understanding of Islam that is often ignored by the surrounding community. The activity which is carried out once a month includes the Qur'an Khotmil and continues with an understanding of the Tafsir Al-Qur'an which is followed by local residents and the youth of the Husnul Khotimah mosque. This program uses an Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach which emphasizes utilizing the assets and potential of the community in Joyoboyo village, Sawunggaling subdistrict, Wonokromo subdistrict, Surabaya city. then gather into a community to become a social justice advocacy platform. So that the potential of the community can be utilized optimally, the ABCD technique is very appropriate to be applied in Wonokromo District. where the religious traditions of the people of Joyoboyo village, Sawunggaling subdistrict, Wonokromo subdistrict, Surabaya city are practiced. The large presence of TPQ and Madin shows that Joyoboyo village, Sawunggaling sub-district, Wonokromo sub-district, Surabaya city has a very religious feel, the series of events include the following Al-Qur'an sermon by the people who attended. Then it closed with a study of the interpretation of the Al-Qur'an plus prayer. The results of the activity show the enthusiasm of residents in practicing the Islamic religious knowledge that has been conveyed so that it can be applied in everyday life. Through active participation, this activity not only improves the quality of local residents, but also improves spiritual and social values in Joyoboyo Village, Wonokromo Surabaya.Keywords: Khotmil Al-Qur'an, Religious Understanding, Society, Mosque Youth

Prevention of Early Marriage and Increasing Awareness of the Importance of Education Through Talk Shows at MA Bahriyatussa’adah

: Education plays a crucial role in improving quality of life and providing better future opportunities. However, the Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET) phenomenon and the high rate of early marriage remain significant challenges, particularly in West Java. The Community Service Program (KKN) in Cibodas Village aimed to raise awareness among students of Madrasah Aliyah (MA) Bahriyatussa’adah about the importance of education in preventing early marriage through a talk show titled “Preventing Early Marriage, Creating a Bright Future Through Education”. This activity employed survey-based and interactive counseling methods, featuring expert speakers in marriage law and education. The results indicated an increased awareness among students regarding the importance of higher education and the opportunities available to them after graduation. This program is expected to shift students' and the community's mindset, thereby reducing early marriage rates and increasing participation in higher education.

Construction of a prayer room to improve the smooth running of worship and social activities in Lebak village

A prayer room is a worship facility that not only functions as a place for worship activities, but also functions as a center for social activities in community associations. This activity involved several local communities in Blooto village where planning, evaluation and implementation were previously held. This activity was carried out on 15 December 2023 - 21 April 2024 starting from laying the first stone until the inauguration of the building. The method used is Participatory Action Research (PAR), where the community is directly involved in the process of laying the first stone until the inauguration. The results show an increase in the quality of facilities, religious and social activities, as well as close relationships with the community in mutual cooperation. This experience proves the important role of the prayer room as a facility and the community the importance of mutual cooperation, thereby creating conditions of harmony and faith.

Community service regarding the dangers of drugs and online gambling for Santri Dayah Mistahus Salam is implemented using the socialization method. The use of this method produces real data regarding the dangers of drugs and online gambling. The aim of socialization is to introduce people about drugs and the impacts they cause. Through various innovative counseling methods, participants showed a significant increase in knowledge regarding types of drugs, online gambling mechanisms, and their negative impacts on physical, mental and social health. More importantly, this activity succeeded in changing the participants' attitudes to be more resistant to drug abuse and online gambling. This can be seen from the increasing number of participants who are willing to become agents of change in their environment and participate in prevention efforts.

This study examines the significance of Arabic language acquisition in enhancing communicative competence and deepening comprehension of Islamic literary sources, particularly the Qur'an and Hadith. Through a structured training program involving 10 students at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), the research employed a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative and qualitative analysis. The intervention featured diagnostic pre-tests, instructional delivery, and summative post-tests, supplemented by structured participant feedback. Results demonstrated statistically significant improvements in oral proficiency, though identified temporal constraints and material coverage limitations as key challenges. The study proposes extending program duration and developing more interactive pedagogical resources for future implementations. These findings contribute to Arabic language pedagogy by offering a replicable instructional model with potential applications across higher education institutions, while emphasizing the importance of sustained professional development for optimal language acquisition outcomes.

The Role of the Ceria Orphan Care Forum in Improving the Quality of Education and Skills of Orphans in Jurumudi Village, Tangerang City

The Cheerful Orphan Care Forum in Jurumudi Village, Tangerang City, is a social institution that focuses on the empowerment of orphans through character education programs, life skills, and religious teaching. This study aims to evaluate the impact of these programs on the development of orphans in the forum. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that the character education program has succeeded in shaping orphans to become more independent, disciplined, and caring individuals for others. Skills training such as computers and English provide orphans with skills that are very useful for their future, while religious teaching reinforces moral and ethical values in everyday life. Although these programs have a positive impact, challenges related to limited resources such as funds, facilities, and teaching staff remain major obstacles. Therefore, stronger collaboration is needed between social institutions, governments, communities, and the private sector to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of these programs. It is hoped that through increased support and resources, the Cheerful Orphan Care Forum can continue to grow and have a wider positive impact on orphans, as well as become an empowerment model that can be applied in various regions in Indonesia.

Increasing Public Awareness In Addressing The Impact Of Online Gambling Through Education And Guidance In Rt 01 Ulujami South Jakarta Community

This study aims to understand the efforts to raise public awareness in tackling the impact of online gambling in Indonesia through education and counseling. The development of digital technology has led to an increase in harmful online gambling practices, both socially and economically. The research approach uses a qualitative method with case studies, in-depth interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGD), and participatory observation in various affected communities. The results show that education plays a significant role in increasing public awareness of the risks of online gambling, particularly through character education programs, digital literacy, and community-based interventions. Counseling, both individually and in groups, has proven effective in helping individuals caught up in online gambling to recover and reduce social stigma. An inclusive approach, using both digital media and face-to-face methods, is expected to improve the effectiveness of rehabilitation and encourage greater participation in online gambling rehabilitation programs.

Abstract

This community service program aims to examine sharia-based business governance among MSME actors in the Baduy Indigenous Community. Using a participatory and descriptive qualitative approach, the activities involved field observation, FGD, educational workshops, and technical assistance. Findings show that sharia principles—such as honesty, fairness, and prohibition of usury—are reflected in traditional business practices, although not formally recognized as such. Contextual education and the development of a sharia-local values-based business model successfully enhanced awareness and skills among MSME actors. The program indicates that strengthening sharia economics can align with preserving local cultural values, offering opportunities for integrating Islamic economic systems sustainably within indigenous communities.

Abstrak

Program pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji tata kelola usaha berbasis syariah di kalangan pelaku UMKM Komunitas Adat Baduy. Melalui pendekatan partisipatif dan kualitatif deskriptif, kegiatan ini melibatkan observasi lapangan, FGD, workshop edukatif, dan pendampingan teknis. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa prinsip syariah seperti kejujuran, keadilan, dan larangan riba telah tercermin dalam praktik usaha masyarakat, meskipun belum diformalkan secara terminologis. Edukasi kontekstual dan pembentukan model usaha berbasis nilai adat dan syariah berhasil meningkatkan kesadaran dan keterampilan pelaku UMKM. Kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa penguatan ekonomi syariah dapat selaras dengan pelestarian nilai budaya lokal, serta membuka peluang bagi integrasi sistem ekonomi Islam ke dalam komunitas adat secara berkelanjutan.

Strategi Penguatan Motivasi Belajar Bahasa Arab melalui Kompetisi: Evaluasi Darunnajah Language Competition

This study aims to evaluate the impact of the Darunnajah Language Competition (DLC) on the motivation to learn Arabic among santri at Pondok Pesantren Darunnajah. The research uses a descriptive quantitative approach, with a survey method to collect data on the motivation of santri before and after participating in the DLC. The study involves 34 respondents, consisting of 18 female and 16 male santri who participated in the 7th DLC in 2025. Data was collected through questionnaires designed to assess the motivation levels and factors influencing their motivation in learning Arabic. The results showed that before the DLC, most santri had a moderate to high level of motivation. After participating in the competition, there was a significant increase in motivation, with 44.1% of santri reporting a very high level of motivation. Furthermore, a majority of participants felt more confident in speaking Arabic after the competition. The competition format, which included a variety of Arabic language-related events, played a crucial role in maintaining interest and engagement in learning. Social support, especially from peers and the surrounding environment, significantly influenced the increase in motivation, with over 70% of santri reporting the importance of their social environment in motivating them. Additionally, the competitive nature of DLC contributed to greater enthusiasm and involvement in learning Arabic, making the competition an effective tool for language development.In conclusion, the DLC has proven to be an effective strategy for enhancing the motivation to learn Arabic among santri, with significant contributions from social support and the engaging competition format. The study recommends continuing such competitions with more diverse and attractive events to further motivate santri in their Arabic language learning journey.

Strengthening Islamic Legal Literacy for Indonesian Migrant Workers in Kuching: Efforts to Ensure Legal Protection and Certainty through Community Service Activities

Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in Kuching, Malaysia, often face various legal issues related to employment contracts, unpaid wages, inhumane working conditions, and discriminatory treatment. A lack of understanding of their legal rights—both under national and Islamic law—weakens their position in resolving these problems effectively. This Community Service Program (PKM) aims to strengthen the Islamic legal literacy of PMI through educational and participatory approaches. The objective is to raise legal awareness, empower workers to claim their rights lawfully, and promote fair and humane working environments rooted in the principles of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah.The implementation method includes a preliminary survey (pre-test) to assess the participants’ baseline understanding of their rights, followed by Islamic law-based legal counseling and interactive discussion sessions. The materials emphasize key principles such as justice (al-‘adl), protection of life (ḥifẓ al-nafs), and protection of property (ḥifẓ al-māl)—core objectives of Islamic law. A practical Islamic legal literacy module was also developed to support independent learning among PMI. The final evaluation (post-test) showed a significant increase in participants’ understanding of Islamic legal principles and their rights as workers in a cross-border context. This activity demonstrates that an Islamic values-based legal approach can serve as an effective alternative in educating and empowering migrant workers. It also strengthens the legal protection system that has often been inadequate. Furthermore, this program presents a collaborative model involving academics, migrant worker communities, and support institutions to establish a more inclusive, humane, and transformative framework of legal protection.
