Abstract

Islamic boarding schools as an integral part of society have a strategic role and responsibility in empowering the community and the economy. Islamic boarding schools have innovated as an effort to strengthen their role for the welfare of the community more comprehensively. One form of this innovation is by forming Islamic boarding school cooperatives. Islamic boarding school cooperatives are currently one of the means of economic empowerment, both in the Islamic boarding school environment and the surrounding community. Riyadhul Muhibbin Islamic Boarding School is a salafiyah Islamic boarding school that not only teaches religious knowledge based on yellow books, but also cares about the development of the Islamic boarding school economy through the establishment of Islamic boarding school cooperatives. This research aims to determine the management of the Riyadhul Muhibbin Islamic boarding school cooperative and the contribution of Islamic boarding schools to community empowerment. This research uses a descriptive qualitative research method. Data collection techniques are carried out through interviews, observations and literature reviews. Data analysis is carried out through data collection, analysis, and drawing conclusions. The results of the research found that there was cooperative management that had not been carried out properly and had not been optimal in helping the economic needs of students and residents around the Islamic boarding school. However, Islamic boarding schools play a fairly large role in the development of infrastructure and the character of students and the surrounding community. In conclusion, the management of cooperatives has not been carried out professionally and Islamic boarding school cooperatives cannot be used as a mainstay of economic strength for residents of Islamic boarding schools and their surroundings.
