Abstract

This study examines the integration of pesantren-based educational institutions within the Zakat Village (Kampung Zakat) program and its role in fostering socio-economic and spiritual transformation among beneficiaries (mustahik) in Sidoarjo, Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach through interviews, observation, and documentation, the study reveals that zakat distribution has evolved from consumptive assistance toward a hybrid empowerment model integrating religious education, economic support, and social infrastructure. Findings indicate that pesantren-based institutions, particularly Taman Pendidikan Al-Qur’an (TPQ), function as critical nodes for spiritual revitalization, educational reinforcement, and community cohesion. Furthermore, economic empowerment programs implemented through the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) contribute to transforming beneficiaries into productive agents. This paper argues that pesantren-centered zakat governance provides a sustainable framework for poverty alleviation and social transformation.
