Authorship Criteria

Sahaja: Journal Sharia and Humanities follows widely accepted scholarly standards on authorship. Authorship is a matter of academic credit and accountability, and it must reflect each person’s real contribution to the work.

Who qualifies as an author

A person is listed as an author only if all of the following conditions are met:

  1. They made a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the study, or to the collection, analysis, or interpretation of data or sources;
  2. They drafted the manuscript or revised it critically for important intellectual content;
  3. They approved the final version submitted and the version to be published; and
  4. They agree to be accountable for the accuracy and integrity of the work, and to help resolve any questions about it.

People who contributed to the work but do not meet these conditions (for example, those who provided technical help, language editing, general supervision, or funding) should be named in the Acknowledgments section with their permission.

Author information

  • All authors must be listed in the submission form, in the order they should appear in the publication, with full names, complete (non-abbreviated) institutional affiliations, and valid email addresses.
  • One author must be designated as the corresponding author, who communicates with the journal on behalf of all authors.
  • The authors are responsible for agreeing on the order of authorship before submission.

Changes to authorship

Adding, removing, or reordering authors after submission requires a written request to the editorial office (sahaja@darunnajah.ac.id) that states the reason and is confirmed by email by all authors, including the author affected. The Editor-in-Chief decides whether the change is accepted. Changes after acceptance are only considered in exceptional cases.

Unacceptable authorship practices

  • Ghost authorship: leaving out a person who meets the criteria above.
  • Gift or guest authorship: listing a person who did not make a meaningful contribution, including for reasons of seniority, position, or favor.
  • Purchased or exchanged authorship.

Cases of suspected authorship manipulation are handled under the Allegation of Research Misconduct procedure.

Use of AI tools

AI tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot take responsibility for the work. Authors who used generative AI or AI-assisted tools in preparing the manuscript must disclose this in the Acknowledgments or Method section, naming the tool and how it was used. Authors remain fully responsible for the content, accuracy, and originality of the manuscript.
